Will Jones at the Daily Sceptic has written a peerless synopsis of the individuals, institutions, and events involved in the earliest days of the response to COVID—at least, that we know of so far. Our perspectives on these events differ in certain respects. At a high level, Jones tends to treat the Chinese government as an ordinary government, whereas I consider it best to think of the Chinese Communist Party, like other totalitarian regimes, as a
